LAS VEGAS - Metro Police have identified the officer that shot and killed a woman Wednesday morning as Officer Sergio MPhillips.

MPhillips is 32 and has been with the department since 2005. He is assigned to the Patrol Operations Support, Homeland Security Saturation team. He has been put on paid administrative leave.

The Clark County Coroner's Office identified the woman shot and killed by police as 49-year-old Mimi Goldberg from Las Vegas. The cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds and the manner of death was homicide.

Goldberg was shot and killed Wednesday morning at the Manor Suites hotel at Las Vegas Boulevard and Warm Springs Road.

According to Metro Police, the incident started shortly after 12 a.m. Officers responded to a disturbance at the hotel. When officers arrived, they saw Goldberg standing on a second-story balcony, holding with a knife.

The officers ordered Goldberg to put down the knife, but she refused and broke into one of the units by slashing the window screen.

Police say when officers reached the apartment, they saw Goldberg stabbing another woman. One of the officers shot Goldberg several times. She was taken to University Medical Center where she died.

Three children were also inside the apartment, but police say the children were unharmed.

The stabbing victim was treated on the scene by medical personnel.

Police are still determining the relationship of the two women. Police have not stated who the children belong to, but all three children are in custody.

Metro Police will release the identities of the officers involved in this shooting in the coming days. This is the 10th officer-involved shooting in Metro's jurisdiction this year and the 7th to go fatal.
