Woman finds dog shot dead in backyard

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS — A Las Vegas woman let her dog out into the backyard Monday morning and minutes later someone shot and killed him.

Now, the family is grieving the loss and wondering why their dog was killed. The family says they are so shocked and frightened; they are now staying at a relative’s house and are trying to sell their home.

Danielle Jones says their dog Feydor became part of the family six years ago. He was always gentle and affectionate with her two young daughters and says he has never been aggressive towards anyone.

Jones let the dog out into the backyard of their home near the 215 beltway and Cheyenne Avenue and went upstairs to wake up the rest of the family. Five minutes later, she says she heard Feydor barking and then a gunshot.

“I went and looked out the window and saw a van take off down the street and so we went downstairs because he was like, ‘Feydor is not barking.’ We went and looked and he was in the backyard,” Jones said.

Jones says her dog would bark every now and then, but the family had never received any complaints from neighbors. She thinks Feydor may have died trying to protect his family from a potential intruder.

Metro Police says they have no information on who shot the dog and are still investigating.
