LAS VEGAS -- Firefighters continue to watch flare ups after an early morning fire on Sunday.
The fire sparked just before 9:30 a.m. at 5228 Shady Grove Lane. When fire crews arrived, they saw smoke coming from the garage, and three people ,and a dog, standing outside the home.
According to firefighters, the fire also spread to the roof. Crews were able to get flames under control by noon.
About an hour later, winds caused embers to reignite and the fire flared back up. A second crew was called in to help.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The people who lived there told investigators they smelled smoke for a while, but did not know where it was coming from. When they discovered it was in the garage, it was too far along to put out.
One firefighter suffered a knee injury and was taken to the hospital to be treated. The house has been ruled a "total loss," with damage estimated around $125,000.
