LAS VEGAS -- The owner of CiCi's Pizza, where the two police officers were ambushed and killed, says he had workers and customers with children who witnessed the tragic event unfold.

"My employees are the heart and soul of CiCi's," said Mike Haskins, the owner of CiCi's.

He says three of his five employees who were working Sunday witnessed the ambush of Metro Police Officers Alyn Beck and Igor Soldo. He says those employees are receiving counseling.

"Not just them, but their families too, because this impacted everybody," Haskins said.

The memorial outside the pizza shop has grown and people stop by to visit it.

"It has been very comforting," he said.

Haskins now understands what being part of the Metro family means.

"They have really taken us in and taken my employees in," he said.

There were also several customers in the pizza restaurant who witnessed the shootings. One family ran to a nearby business.

"All of the sudden, a family walks in screaming, saying 'help help. Take my kids.' I started panicking, came up front, and I was like, what's going on? What's going on? 'There's a shooting, there's a shooting, cops, cops,'" said Angelica Hernandez who works at the frozen yogurt shop across the parking lot.

"Next thing you know, there's a whole bunch of cops all around, blocking everything," she said.

Shortly after that, she learned about the shootings of the two officers. Hernandez says the customers from CiCi's, which included maybe seven children, along with the CiCi's employees stayed locked inside the store for several hours, guarded by police, questioned, and in shock.

"The kids, they were crying, saying 'it's scary, we saw it, it's scary,' I'm like, it's okay, it's okay, you guys are going to be fine, the cops are here. I was trying to stay strong for them and not break down,"

On Friday, Hernandez took flowers to the memorial to honor the victims. She says the children she tried comforting Sunday are still very much on her mind.

"It breaks my heart that a little kid is going to have those images in their life for the rest of their lives."

Hernandez and her co-workers say Officers Igor Soldo and Alyn Beck were regulars at the frozen yogurt shop and so were the shooters. The U-Swirl frozen yogurt shop and CiCi's are holding fundraisers this weekend.
