2 dead in plane crash near Lake Mead's Echo Bay

LAKE MEAD, Nev. -- Two people died in a plane crash just before 9 p.m. Thursday near the Echo Bay Airport on the north end of the Lake Mead Recreational Area.

The Clark County Fire Department said it was a "small two-seater," but offered no other detailed information.

The plane was found on fire in a ravine near the airport, about 10 miles south of Overton Beach, according Clark County fire officials. Two bodies were found in the wreckage.

Emergency personnel from the National Park Service, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Search and Rescue, and Clark County Fire Department were on scene Thursday evening.

The Federal Aviation Administration has been called to investigate. 

No other information was immediately available.
