Woman throws children, self out 2nd story window

LAS VEGAS - Police are investigating an attempted murder-suicide involving a woman and two children. Investigators say the woman was suffering from depression.
Police say the 35-year-old woman threw her two children -- a 6-month-old boy and 2-year-old girl -- from a second story window at a home before making the jump herself.  The incident happened around 6 a.m. Thursday on Spiritual Way near Lake Mead Boulevard and Pecos Road.
The woman and children were taken to University Medical Center. The boy suffered extremely critical injuries. The girl is in critical condition. The mother suffered a spinal injury which could leave her paralyzed.

Tinora Lemus, a family friend, said she doesn't understand how her friend could harm her children.

"She never seemed sad. She always seemed happy," Lemus said.

The woman could now face charges of attempted murder by child abuse.

"Family members were home. They forced their way into the room. When they looked out the window, they saw the individuals on the ground, and that was how the call was generated from the family," said Metro Police Lt. Dan McGrath.

Neighbors say they wish the woman would have reached out for help.

"It can only be fixed through help. We have to reach out to help people, and people need to reach out when they need help," said Stephen Drapala, a neighbor.

Lemus says she would have never believed her friend would do what she did.

"If somebody's out there feeling like they are at the end, or they can't face what's going on, we don't want people to think that there's nobody to help them, because we will find help for them," Lt. McGrath said.
