Acts of Kindness: Lola Asbury

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS - Don't be misled by Lola Asbury’s tiny stature. She is strong, determined and one of the most active volunteers at Three Square food bank.

“It's such an easy place to want to come to and do some positive time,” she said.

Stocking shelves inside the pantry is one of the many duties Asbury has perfected. She performs each task with precision and care.

In four years, she has made a huge impact on Three Square's Senior Share Program. Asbury helps distribute food to nearly 1,200 seniors, as well as other disadvantaged people across our valley.

“Some of those were wonderful businessmen at one time. Some were military men. Any of us could wind up like that,” she said.

Asbury spent most of her life as a correctional officer for various prisons. She also volunteers for Catholic Charities and Shade Tree.

At Three Square, she's donated 2,000 hours, making her the organization’s most active volunteer.

She recently received a huge honor for her efforts. She was awarded the Governor’s Volunteer Service Award.

“I didn't know it until I got that sash. We clock in, and I don't keep track of my hours,” she said.

8 News NOW is adding another accolade to Lola Asbury’s resume, awarding her $800 as part of its weekly series Acts of Kindness.
