Suspect in deadly shooting had lengthy criminal record

LAS VEGAS --Metro Police have released the photo of and more information about the suspect who was shot and killed by police Friday night.

The man who was shot and killed by the officers has been identified as 31-year-old Danny Michael Wadsworth, Jr. by the Clark County Coroner's Office.

Wadsworth, a purse snatching suspect, was fatally shot by officers after fleeing in a vehicle and crashing.

Police say the incident started when Wadsworth stole the purses of two women who were walking at the Town Square shopping center on Friday night.

“Two women were walking through the parking structure when someone stole their purses,” Metro Police Capt. Matt McCarthy said.

Police tracked the suspect's vehicle with the help of one of the victim's cell phones and gave commands to him after he collided with another vehicle.

"Our officers immediately got out and gave orders to the subject in the pursuing vehicle. That subject fired at our officers with a handgun several times, our officers returned fire, striking the subject. And the subject was deceased," Capt. McCarthy said.

Two people in the other vehicle were released after treatment at a hospital.

Police say Wadsworth had a lengthy criminal record including the attempted theft of DVD’s from a Target store and jeans from a JC Penney. He was also charged last year with child endangerment, possession of a stolen firearm and obstructing police.

Records also show that he was supposed to complete a drug court program on condition of his probation.

Metro Police also released the names of the two officers involved in the shooting.

The officers are 45-year-old Officer Jeffrey Gentry, who has been with the department since 1999, and 27-year-old Officer Bryce Martines, who has been with the department since 2008.

Both officers are on routine paid administrative leave, pending the outcome of a review of the incident.
