LAS VEGAS -- Metro Police say one person was killed in an officer-involved shooting on Sahara Avenue near I-15.

According to police, the incident started at around 9 p.m. Friday, when two women were robbed outside a business at Town Square shopping center at Las Vegas Boulevard and the southern beltway. The suspect fled the scene and police chased after him. During the chase, one Metro officer crashed his car. There is no word on his condition.

The chase ended along Sahara Avenue between I-15 and Las Vegas Boulevard, when the suspect crashed into the median. Police say the suspect started firing his gun at officers. Officers returned fire, shooting and killing the suspect.

Westbound and eastbound Sahara Avenue was closed from Las Vegas Boulevard to the interstate for several hours while police investigated.
