State will take applications for medical pot businesses in August

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS -- The state has announced its plan for taking applications for medical marijuana businesses.

The Division of Public and Behavioral Health will accept applications over 10 business days from August 5 through August 18. The applications must be postmarked within the 10 days or physically delivered to the division’s offices in Carson City.

Clark County has already accepted 97 applications from companies seeking to open medical marijuana businesses in the unincorporated sections of the county. Those applicants must now apply to and be approved by the state, before they can be considered by the county.

It also means that individuals or businesses that missed the county’s deadline can now apply to the state.

The cities of Las Vegas and North Las Vegas have agreed to allow medical marijuana businesses in their limits, but have not accepted applications for those businesses.

Nevada voters approved the use of marijuana for medical purposes in 2000, but it wasn't’t until last year that the Legislature changed the law allowing medical marijuana businesses to be established in the state.
