Ballmer, Sterling reach agreement for $2B sale of Clippers

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- An Associated Press source says that former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has reached a $2 billion agreement with Shelly Sterling for the sale of Los Angeles Clippers.

Sterling and her estranged husband Donald must relinquish total ownership in the team for the deal.

A person with knowledge of the negotiations told The Associated Press on Wednesday if an agreement to sell is reached before next Tuesday, the league's owners wouldn't meet in New York to vote on terminating Donald Sterling's ownership. The individual wasn't authorized to speak publicly because the NBA is not commenting on the process.

Donald Sterling received a lifetime ban from the NBA after he was caught on tape making comments that many people considered racist. The NBA commissioner also said he would work to get Sterling to relinquish ownership of the team.
