Nevada special enrollment period ends Friday

Posted: Updated:
LAS VEGAS -- The deadline for the special enrollment period for Nevadans who tried but were unable to purchase health insurance is midnight Friday, May 30.
Due to ongoing problems with the Nevada Health Link website, applicants already in the system who couldn't complete their registration were given an additional 60-day period to enroll. Once the deadline passes, the next opportunity to sign up will be in November.

"Most of the applications have gone through. Those applications that are still providing us errors, we are working with Xerox and we have worked on several cases now to resolve those cases and be able to complete that process," said Andres Ramirez, a healthcare navigator.

Officials say help is available over the phone or in person for consumers wanting assistance filling out the applications.

"When people try to do it on their own, probably they don't answer the questions correctly. So when they come to us, we're able to do it and complete it in a short amount of time." said Glenys Esinal, who assists with enrollment.

About 35,700 consumers have purchased insurance coverage through the program. Enrollment is far less than an initial target of 118,000.

Last week a state board fired Xerox, the builder and operator of the website.
