LAS VEGAS - The Culinary and Bartenders Union announced Wednesday morning it reached agreement with the El Cortez Hotel and Casino on a new workers contract.
Union officials say the five-year deal, which still must be ratified by union members, resembles deals reached recently with the Golden Nugget, Fremont Hotel and Casino and Main Street Station.
“We congratulate the workers at El Cortez on reaching a good contract settlement with the company,” said Culinary Union Local 226 Secretary-Treasurer Geoconda Arguello-Kline in a statement. "Workers are the backbone of Downtown Las Vegas, and they deserve the opportunity to provide for their families through hard work under a fair contract.”
The Culinary Union is scheduled to go on strike June 1 at six other downtown properties - The D, Four Queens, Binion's, the Plaza, Las Vegas Club and Golden Gate - if new deals are not reached.
