Scholarships awarded to 370 Clark County students

LAS VEGAS -- Going to college can be expensive, but some Clark County students got a helping hand Tuesday as they were awarded nearly $770,000 in college scholarships.

The scholarships were given out by the Public Education Foundation at its 20th annual scholarship program Tuesday at the Venetian Hotel. A total of 479 scholarships were awarded to 370 students. Some students received multiple scholarships. The scholarships are provided by businesses, organizations and individuals. Students are chosen based on criteria such as academic achievement or financial need.

"These scholarships wouldn't be possible if it weren't for the generosity of our donors and their dedication to help students continue their education," said Judi Steele, president and CEO of the Public Education Foundation.

Over the past two decades, the foundation has awarded more than $8.6 million in scholarships.
