Asurion company to open in Las Vegas, 800 jobs

Posted: Updated:
LAS VEGAS -- A company that insures technical devices will open a customer service center in Las Vegas that will employ hundreds of people over the next five years.

Asurion, a Tennessee based company, will locate its office on Grand Montecito Parkway, near US 95 and the 215 Beltway in northwest Las Vegas. The building the company will move into has been empty for six years when construction ended and the recession hit.

"We are out of the recession, right? It is happening. It's real. It's tangible. You can see it happening in southern Nevada," said Jonas Peterson, Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance.

Company officials plan to hire 500 people by the end of the year and grow to 800 within five years. The positions being filled include support technicians, managers and supervisors. Asurion is a global company with 280 million customers.

"They are not minimum wage jobs. They are expert support technicians. It is a customer center," said Paul Fassbender with Asurion.

The Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance started working with Asurion a year ago in an effort to get the company to pick Las Vegas.

“The State’s location and business-friendly environment were two of the top reasons that Asurion chose Nevada over 13 other qualified cities/locations. Over the next 10 years, the estimated economic impact from Asurion is over $1 billion – a significant footprint on Nevada’s economy, especially in southern Nevada," said Steve Hill, director of the Governor's Office of Economic Development.

“We are proud to call Las Vegas home to our newest Premier Support Solutions center. We have found exceptional talent here and are grateful for the warm welcome we’ve already received from the Las Vegas community, local businesses and government officials,” said Sue Nokes, senior vice president of customer solutions at Asurion.

"These kinds of projects are symbolic because they are big wins. The community can see previously unoccupied properties now put to a much better use," Peterson said.

Applicants interested in applying should visit the Asurion website.
