Carjacker hits pedestrian, ditches car, steals another

LAS VEGAS -- Police are investigating reports of a carjacking which later led to a pedestrian being hit at Rancho Drive and Decatur Boulevard just before 3 p.m.

According to Metro Police, a woman carjacked a taxi cab and hit a pedestrian and another vehicle as she was fleeing. The pedestrian was transported to University Medical Center in unknown condition.

Robert Duran saw the whole thing go down and works feet away at My Auto Service.

"I was scared because I thought a car fell off the rack, so that's what I thought,” Duran said. "We were working so we went outside and there was pretty much a big accident."

Duran added an African American woman with orange hair got out of the badly damaged cab, which was still smoking after the wreck. The woman ran over to another car grabbed the driver by his collar and yanked him out.

"She looked like she was crazy,” Duran said. "He came out, he goes 'she just stole my car!" and we were like you could have stopped her, and he just walked to the corner and she took off."

Police have no idea why the female carjacker stole the cars to begin with.

Police say the woman ditched the cab in the area of Cheyenne Avenue and Jones Boulevard and stole another vehicle. Police are still looking for the suspect. The eastbound lanes on Cheyenne reopened to traffic. Westbound lanes remain later reopened from Jones Boulevard to Torrey Pines.

The pedestrian that was hit suffered non-life threatening injuries and surveillance video showed the entire crash, but police have not released it.
