Alleged Palms shooter pleads 'not guilty'

LAS VEGAS -- The man accused in a deadly shooting at the Palms hotel pleaded 'not guilty' in Las Vegas Justice Court Wednesday morning.

Jim Johnson, 25, is charged with murder with a deadly weapon in the death of Evan Plunkett, 25, an aspiring rapper. The shooting happened on the evening of May 15 in a luxury suite at the hotel where about 50 people had gathered to shoot a rap video.

According to the arrest report, Johnson told a friend he dropped his gun and it went off accidentally shooting Plunkett. Johnson surrendered to police on May 18.

Johnson's bail was set at $100,000. His attorney, William Terry said, Johnson will post bail and remain on house arrest. His next hearing is July 1, 2014.
