Opening date announced for Downtown Summerlin

LAS VEGAS --   Downtown Summerlin will open to the public on Oct. 9,  executives with the Howard Hughes Corporation announced Thursday.

The project previously known as The Shops at Summerlin will now be called Downtown Summerlin.

David Weinreb, CEO of the Howard Hughes Corporation, led a hard-hat tour of his company's latest project Thursday. It is a development that has been a long time coming.

A new addition to the development is a nine-story office building that is already leasing space for new businesses.

"We believe downtown development would be great catalytic of great things we hope to see here over the coming years," Weinreb said.

When the entire 106-acre development is complete, it will include retail, restaurants, entertainment, office space and multi-family residences. The retail area will include Nordstrom Rack, Dillards, Perfumania, Macy's, Victoria's Secret, Old Navy, American Eagle, Michael Kors and Sephora. In all, there will be 125 stores and restaurants in a streetscape setting.

This project has already created some 2,000 construction jobs, and when Downtown Summerlin opens, more than 2,000 permanent openings are expected to be available.

"We have been watching construction driving by and it's super exciting and it's in a great location." Molly Sheridan, who lives nearby, said.

Sheridan and her daughter are especially excited that a five-screen Regal Cinema theater will be part of the complex.

"I think the whole experience, shopping, eating and going to see movie, it is going to be all-in-one fun, full day." Taylor Sheridan said.

Celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck also just announced he is opening an eatery at the complex and the owners of the popular restaurant HoneySalt will also launch a sister restaurant at the complex.

"It's right down from my house, so I am walking here when it opens." Molly Sheridan said.

Downtown Summerlin is located east of the 215 Beltway and Charleston Avenue.
