Teacher caught on camera allegedly grabbing boy, 6, by face

HANCOCK COUNTY, Ohio -- An Ohio elementary school teacher has been caught on camera confronting a six-year-old boy after a bathroom break, allegedly picking him up by the face.

It's unclear what caused the confrontation, however surveillance video shows the woman, who has not been identified, grabbing the boy, named Ian, and pushing him against the wall. You can see his head flop backward as he's picked up off the floor.

"I would consider what would happen to myself, if I were to do that to her. If I were to do that to her, I would go to jail," Anthony Nelson, Ian's father told Toledo News Now.

On Tuesday, the teacher was suspended for 10 days. But the Nelsons think that punishment comes off as an early vacation because school ends in 10 days.

The parents told the TV station they first expressed concerns over the teacher, who has been with the district for 14 years, in November. However, the Nelsons said the issue was swept under the rug.

"We asked for him to be moved to a different classroom and we said can he please go to a different classroom and the principal told at that time that she's a highly recommended teacher and they are unwilling to transfer him to a different class," Anthony Nelson told the station.

The Superintended has apologized to the parents saying "this should not happen."

The issue came to light after someone in the school reported the incident a week earlier.

According to Toledo News Now, the 10-day suspension remains in effect, but the teacher could face charges pending an investigation by the sheriff's office.

"I don't think she should be teaching anymore. I mean honestly in this type of situation, there's no one that should ever put their hands on a child," said Nelson.
