Coroner IDs man shot, killed at Eastern and Owens avenues

LAS VEGAS -- The Clark County Coroner's Office has identified the man shot and killed near Eastern and Owens avenues as 48-year-old Tony Lazaro Newberry.

The coroner says he died from a gunshot to the chest and the manner of death has been ruled as a homicide.

Metro Police arrested Newberry's roommate, Charles Redd Jr., for the shooting. According to police, Redd shot Newberry in the parking lot of a grocery store Thursday night. 

During the investigation, homicide detectives found Newberry had been in an argument with Redd shortly before the shooting.

Redd has been booked in to the Clark County Detention Center on charges of murder with a deadly weapon and prohibited person in possession of a firearm.

This is the 40th homicide investigation in Metro's jurisdiction in 2014. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Metro's Homicide Division at (702) 828-3521, or to remain anonymous call Crime Stoppers at (702) 385-5555.
