Video shows Nye Co. assist. sheriff's arrest

PAHRUMP, Nev. -- A video obtained by the I-Team allegedly shows Nye County Assistant Sheriff Rick Marshall pulling up campaign signs and getting arrested for it.

The video was shot by Rick Marshall's opponent in the upcoming election Steven Lee, who is running the "Anybody but Rick" campaign. Lee said he spotted the assistant sheriff taking campaign signs from yards.

Sheriff's deputies caught Russell and a friend with the signs in their truck. Lee also shot video of Marshall's arrest. Arresting officers said Marshall kicked them and held onto the back of a trailer in an effort to stop them from handcuffing him.

Early in the video, assistant sheriff Marshall and a deputy appear to lose their balance. After he was handcuffed, they say he dropped his weight, making it difficult for them to put him in the patrol car.

When deputies eventually get Marshall in the patrol car, they cannot close the police car door. The video shows Marshall's foot is keeping the door open. Deputies had to use a separate seat belt to restrain Marshall's feet.

Marshall is charged with resisting arrest and possession of stolen property.

During a news conference Thursday, the police association's attorney explained how the arrest happened.

"When a law enforcement officer is put in a position of having to potentially arrest one of his supervisors, it is in the best interests of that officer to have multiple witnesses there so they are not placed in the jeopardy position of having it be their word versus the word of their supervisor, who of course has control of their careers." Adam Levine with Silver State Public Safety Association said.

Marshall says he had permission to remove the signs from the property owners.
