Ground stop lifted at LAX, delays continue at McCarran

Posted: Updated:
UPDATE: The FAA says a "technical issue" caused planes to be ground stopped at Los Angeles International Airport which sent a ripple effect of delays across the country, including at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas.

As of 3:40 p.m., the ground stop was lifted and the system was "slowly being restored."

Travelers should check their flight status, McCarran recommended.

LOS ANGELES — Planes are not being allowed to take off at Los Angeles International Airport. It's already affecting departures at McCarran.

Airport spokeswoman Nancy Castles said Wednesday afternoon that the Federal Aviation Administration had put a "ground stop" on departures. Arrivals were still being accepted.

Castles wasn't sure what caused the problem. An FAA spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Los Angeles International is the nation's third-busiest airport.
