Coroner IDs man killed in officer-involved shooting

Posted: Updated:
LAS VEGAS -- The Clark County Coroner's Office has identified the man shot and killed by Metro Police officers as 46-year-old Herbert Earl Green of Henderson.

The cause and manner of death are still pending. Green died Tuesday afternoon at Sunrise Hospital after he was shot by officers.

The officer-involved shooting happened outside a home on Palm Street in a neighborhood near Sandhill Road and Tropicana Avenue.

According to police, the incident started at around 2 p.m. Tuesday, when Green called dispatchers to say that he was going to be killed that day. An officer responded and was able to talk to Green on the phone for some time.

Police officers surrounded the home, and the suspect came out several times, but he was never armed. Finally, Green came out of the home armed with a handgun, police said.

Police say Green started shooting at officers, who returned fire hitting the suspect. He was taken to Sunrise Hospital where he died.

An officer, who was on scene, was taken to the hospital for injuries not related to the shooting.
