LAS VEGAS -- The Bureau of Land Management now confirms that a total of six cattle died during the roundup of animals from federally managed lands being used by rancher Cliven Bundy.
According to the BLM, two Bundy branded animals, a bull and a cow, were euthanized. The bull because it posed a threat to employees during the gather. The cow because it injured its spine when it ran into a fence.
Two other unbranded animals were euthanized, while two more unbranded animals died.
Supporters of Bundy have claimed that the BLM had planned to kill all of the animals during the roundup. Bundy's herd is estimated to be around 500 cattle, the BLM says it rounded up around 300.
Bundy and the BLM are locked in a legal battle over Bundy grazing his cattle on public lands. The BLM claims he has not paid grazing fees for 20 years.
The BLM released all of the animals back onto public lands because it was worried about safety.
