Acts of Kindness: Tatiana and Leroy Newcomb

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS - Meet Leroy and Tatiana Newcomb, a Las Vegas couple with plenty to be thankful for. Six years ago, Tatiana lived out of her car. Leroy spent his nights at the local shelter.

Today, both have decent jobs and share a cozy home. They save enough money to gather necessities for the valley's homeless.

"Duct tape, some people started giving us tarps, toilet paper, different hygiene products," said Leroy. "People are so thankful when they receive those items."

"We've both been homeless, so it's very personal to us. We know what it's like when people just walk by you and ignore you, essentially, and how that feels. We want people to know that they're not forgotten," said Tatiana.

"You never realize how good you have it until you're giving. Then, you realize, well, I have a lot," Leroy said.

Leroy and Tatiana started giving on Thanksgiving holidays. They named themselves "The Thanks-Living Bike Crew". Today, the organization includes more than 20 people who spread the message of positivity and perseverance.

They also include personality. Each of their rides possesses a theme. This month's theme is "tutus and top hats".

"Dressing up in silly outfits makes people smile," said Leroy.

"We want people to know it's possible to feel like you have nothing, to get out of that funk. It does take a positive attitude, a will and great friends," said Tatiana. "I attribute a lot of my successes to my friends."

8 News NOW is rewarding Leroy and Tatiana Newcomb, awarding them $800 as part of its weekly series Acts of Kindness.
