(Nov. 1) -- State and local officials say they are prepared for just about anything at polling places on Election Day. Armies of lawyers, poll watchers, and survey-takers are expected at most voting locations, but if they try to interfere with voters, Nevada's Attorney General stands ready to pounce.
Nevada Attorney General Brian Sandoval has stayed on the sidelines so far in all the flap about registration fraud and the possibility of challenges at the polls, but, if there is widespread hanky-panky on the part of either party, or anyone else, on Election Day Sandoval says he and his own army of lawyers will be ready to come down hard on whomever is responsible.
The I-Team met with Sandoval in his Carson City office Monday morning and he said his pledge to prosecute applies to both parties, even though he is co-chairman of the Bush-Cheney campaign in Nevada.
Sandoval said, "I'm monitoring how this is being handled across the country, and because of my role with the campaign, I'm being triple vigilant so if we find out something is wrong, regardless of which party, we will prosecute to the fullest extent of the law."
Sandoval says his office was ready and willing to proceed with charges concerning alleged voter registration fraud that were pursued by the Nevada Division of Investigation. However, the Secretary of State, who has jurisdiction, determined there wasn't evidence of an organized effort to falsify registrations. However, the investigation continues.
In addition, the FBI is still pursuing its own inquiry into allegations that registration forms were destroyed by operatives paid by the Republican Party.
