Bail Set at $500k for Driver in Summerlin Crash

LAS VEGAS -- The driver charged with killing two people in a crash on the Summerlin Parkway was arraigned in Las Vegas Justice Court Friday morning. Gustavo Martinez Garcia appeared in court in a wheelchair with braces and bandages on his legs.

He is charged with two counts of felony DUI resulting in death for the crash that happened on Feb. 5. Savanna Gonzales, 20, and Frank Spenia, 31, were killed when their car was hit head on by Garcia's truck.

Martinez Garcia's bail was set at $500,000.

According to the arrest report, Garcia's truck was traveling westbound on Summerlin Parkway when he crossed the center median and struck Gonzales' car which was heading eastbound on the parkway.

A NHP trooper did say Garcia, who was injured in the crash, did appear intoxicated at the hospital. The trooper did three voluntary blood draws from Garcia. The toxicology results are still pending.

Martinez Garcia is scheduled for his preliminary hearing on March 11.
