Police: Wedding Party Argument Leads to Shooting

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS -- A Las Vegas man is under arrest on four counts of attempted murder with a deadly weapon, battery with deadly weapon resulting in substantial bodily harm and discharging a firearm in a building, following a fight and shooting late Saturday night.

The fight happened during a wedding reception at El Palacio Del Sol near Sahara Avenue and Maryland Parkway, according to Metro Police.

Police say the suspect, Peter Andrade, got into an argument with another man at the reception. He took out a 9 millimeter gun and open fired, hitting the victim five times, police said.

As Andrade tried to leave, he was stopped by other guests. He was beaten and kicked, until he pulled out the gun and shot three more people, officers said. Police say Andrade's girlfriend took the gun away, and Andrade was held in the parking lot by security until police arrived.

In the arrest report, Andrade told police he heard the gunshots but did not know who shot the victims. He also said he didn't know why he was attacked by the other guests.

The police gang unit is investigating the shooting. Officers said that although it wasn't a gang-motivated shooting, several people at the reception had gang affiliations.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
