Man Arrested for Impersonating an Officer

Posted: Updated:

HENDERSON, Nev. -- A Las Vegas man is under arrest on charges of impersonating a police officer.

According to Henderson Police, 44-year-old Lawrence DiVetro has been booked into the Henderson Detention Center on charges of impersonating an officer, burglary and kidnapping.

Police said DiVetro demanded a sexual favor from a massage parlor worker at Sunset Spa, which is located on Sunset Road. When the masseuse refused, he told her he was a Henderson Police officer and she was under arrest, police said.

"During the course of the massage he asked for sexual favors and when he was rebuffed he then said he was a police officer and he was going to arrest the message parlor worker," Henderson Police spokesperson Keith Paul said. "When he was in the massage parlor in January he had an app on his phone that had the police scanner going over on his phone and that really made the worker at the massager parlor believe he was a police officer."

He detained her, but eventually told her he would need to talk to his supervisor. At that point, he left the building and did not return, according to detectives.

When police found DiVetro, he had a gold badge and handcuffs in the seat of his car. He admitted that he did show the woman a badge but said it was to prevent a crime after he was offered sexual favors.

8 News Now contacted the spa this afternoon, but declined to talk about the incident.

Police said a real officer will also show identification when asked and recommend anytime you feel something just doesn't seem right to call 911.
