LAS VEGAS -- A motorist whose pickup truck crossed the landscaped median of a Las Vegas expressway and slammed head-on into a car, killing two people, is facing felony driving under the influence charges.

Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Loy Hixson said Friday that 51-year-old Gustavo Garcia-Martinez of North Las Vegas remains hospitalized following the head-on crash a little after 4 p.m. Feb. 5 on Summerlin Parkway.

Garcia-Martinez is due for an initial court appearance next Thursday in Las Vegas Justice Court. His name is also listed in court records as Martinez-Garcia.

NHP released the preliminary report on the deadly accident Thursday.

According to the report, 20-year-old Savanna Gonzales was heading eastbound on Summerlin Parkway near Rampart Boulevard when Garcia-Martinez, who was driving a black pickup truck westbound, crossed over the median and headed for her car.

The report says Gonzales put on her brakes and went into a skid before Garcia-Martinez's pickup hit the front of her car.

Both Gonzales and her boyfriend, 31-year-old Frank Spenia who was a passenger, died at the scene.
