LAS VEGAS -- The Clark County School District announced that 10 new schools will be switched to year-round schedules starting in the 2014 - 2015 school year.
School Superintendent Pat Skorkowsky made the announcement during a school board meeting Thursday afternoon.
The district said the change was needed because of overcrowding at the schools. The 10 schools will join three schools that were moved to a year-round calendar for the current school year.
Superintendent Skorkowsky said that without money to build new schools the district had few choices.
The schools include:
Clyde C. Cox Elementary School
Lois Craig Elementary School
Laura Dearing Elementary School
Mark L. Fine Elementary School
Robert E. Lake Elementary School
Aldeane Comito Ries Elementary School
Bertha Ronzone Elementary School
Dr. C. Owen Roundy Elementary School
Gwendolyn Woolley Elementary School
Elaine Wynn Elementary School
The superintendent also announced that the 14 zoom schools, which received extra funding for English language learning programs, will have their school year extended by 17 days to make sure the extra money is fully used to improve the students' skills.
