Bright red hair and an insatiable hunger for books makes today's Wednesday's Child unique, but Dave Courvoisier shows us there's a lot more to Christopher when you get to know him.
Christopher's eyes got as big as could be when he realized we were going to spend our time together at the pinball hall of fame... All these great video games, and where does he head first? the venerable Pac-Man game.
From there, it was an endless walk of discovery to all of the gizmo stimulation a young man could want. He even let me win in a game of air hockey
Christopher loves school, loves books, and has a unique career goal.
"He wants to be an Egyptologist when he gets older which I had never even heard of before, he loves history, he likes art, things like that," says Kayla, Christopher's adoption recruiter.
"I do, that's what I want to be when I grow up... an Egyptologist!" exclaims Christopher.
Christopher will be 12 this year. He's in the fifth grade, and although he's in a good foster home, he's still working on accepting the fact that he'll eventually be adopted.
"I think given the right support, Christopher can do anything that he wants… he's a smart kid and he's had dreams and goals and I think as long as he has the right support he can do whatever he wants," explains Kayla.
Despite all the distractions here, Christopher surprised us when I asked him what was the best part of the day.
"The best part was being here with you guys!" admits Christopher.
...And what should we tell people about him?
"Just say good things about me," Christopher told me.
Structure and clear boundaries will help Christopher get to the next phase of his life:
"I think as long as he gets a family that is supportive he'll be okay," adds Kayla.
Christopher is free and clear for adoption. You can get the process started by calling the local office of the Adoption Exchange now at 436-6335.
