Evidence Hearing Due in Las Vegas Bus Station Shooting

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- A Las Vegas judge is due to hear preliminary evidence that a 64-year-old ex-convict from Texas opened fire at security guards after being ushered out of a downtown bus terminal.

Justice of the Peace Diana Sullivan is scheduled to decide Wednesday whether James Calvin Abney should stand trial in state court on multiple felony charges in the Dec. 5 shooting.

Abney allegedly fired five shots but no one was injured at the Greyhound bus station on Main Street.

Police quickly arrested Abney on felony attempted murder, assault with a weapon and firearm charges that could get him decades in state prison. He's been jailed on $150,000 bail.

Abney is from Forney, Texas. He told police he was homeless and he went inside partly to get warm on a cold night.
