Power Restored after Wind Downs Power Lines

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS -- Strong winds in the Las Vegas valley caused power outages for hundreds of NV Energy customers scattered across the valley, according to a NV Energy spokesperson.

By 8 p.m., power had been restored to all but two customers.

One of the major outages was in the area of Lake Mead Boulevard and Tenaya Way in northwest Las Vegas. The power was out for several hours in that neighborhood while repairs were made.

The wind also brought down some power lines in the area of Rainbow Boulevard and Vegas Drive.

Local resident Michael Teague said the powerful winds ripped a power pole in two near his work sending power lines crashing into the parking lot and businesses into darkness.

"No cooking, no anything, no gas pumping or anything like that," Teague said. "I think it was like around 2pm, I just began my shift and the winds were really kicking up."

NV Energy has crews working to restore the power in those areas.

At one point, 4,000 people in the Las Vegas valley were without power.
