Las Vegas Student Arrested for Carrying Concealed Weapon

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS -- A student of Shadow Ridge High School was taken off his school bus and arrested for carrying a weapon by North Las Vegas Police Wednesday morning.

According to Clark County School District Police, a tip from a mother that a student on the bus had some kind of weapon led to North Las Vegas Police pulling over the bus at around 6 a.m. Wednesday.

The student was found with a knife, officers said.

"The arrest happened without incident. The juvenile was cooperative through the whole investigation," CCSD Sgt. Mitch Maciszak said.

Police say even if parents are unsure, they should never hesitate to call something in if they sense danger.

"Sometimes students will not tell an adult, but parents may overhear a rumor that may be happening at the school," Sgt. Maciszak said.

The student, who is facing a charge of carrying a concealed weapon, also faces suspension and expulsion.
