Acts of Kindness: Jim Lammert

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS - Jim Lammert tackles numerous problems at the Easter Seals facility in Las Vegas. His official job title is facilities manager, but people know him better as "Papa Jim".

Tina Jeeves is the Easter Seals Nevada senior vice president. She's also Lammert's daughter.

"In our personal life, he started out raising three kids by himself, single dad," she said. "At Easter Seals, when he started volunteering here, when I began working, he was such a good volunteer that they hired him."

His devotion to helping others is impressive.

"His commitment to people with disabilities at Easter Seals has been very long term," said Easter Seals Nevada CEO Brian Patchett. "He has helped so many adults with significant disabilities to become successful."

Steve Howard is a living example of Lammert's dedication. Lammert worked with him for ten years, helping him gain independence and learn job skills. Now, Howard has a job.

"He's a good teacher," Howard said.

Lammert's co-workers say they appreciate the concern and compassion he extends to them as well.

"Someone's sick, he leaves Vitamin C on their desk. No lady walks to her car late at night by themselves. He walks them to their cars, brings people lunch," said Jeeves.

"I don't think I've ever seen him unhappy or sad about anything. He's always smiling. He just makes your day," added Easters Seals Director of Adult Day Services Ann Warren.

8 News NOW is rewarding Jim Lammert's efforts, awarding him $800 as part of its weekly series Acts of Kindness. If you wish to nominate someone for Acts of Kindness, visit our website or e-mail us.
