LAS VEGAS -- More details are emerging about two boys killed in a trailer fire over the weekend. It appears both boys, a 15-year-old and possibly an 11-year-old, were alone.

Family members of Jerry Slayden Junior believe the other fire victim is Slayden's friend, Andrew Njera who is 11 years old. Both were killed in an early morning fire Sunday in a small travel trailer.

An investigation is underway as to why the boys were left alone and who was responsible for them. A little more than 24 hours after the trailer went up in flames, family members and friends set out candles and crosses in memory of the two boys who died. While aunts and uncles were at the scene, there were no parents.

Alan Brown was there so he could pay his respects to his deceased nephew, Jerry Slayden.

"Somebody's got to get it going," he said.

Brown has been at the fire scene in east Las Vegas for the past two days trying to get answers as to why the two boys were in the trailer and how it caught fire.

"They were together, they were friends," Brown said.

Family members say the boys were in a trailer with no electricity behind Slayden's grandmother's house.

"I think he was here to take care of his grandma because she has dementia," said one of Slayden's friends who did not want to be identified.

Friends say the teen was quick to help his grandmother who was sick and lived in a very run-down home.

Sources say investigators want to question the parents of Slayden as to why he was not with them. Clark County Child Protective Services would not comment on the case.

"He wasn't a bad kid. He wasn't out there doing crimes or nothing. He was just a kid with a big heart who loved his family," said the friend.

Firefighters say a heat source such as a candle may have sparked the fire.
