North Las Vegas, Nev. -- A Clark County grand jury has indicted a North Las Vegas man for the murder of his wife more than a year ago.

The jury indicted Anthony Mayo for one count murder, one count battery constituting domestic violence - strangulation, one count of coercion and one count of preventing a witness from reporting a crime.

Mayo is accused of murdering his wife Beverly McFarlane in August 2012. According to North Las Vegas Police, Mayo beat and choked his wife. He then grabbed a vacuum cleaner and beat her with that.

Police say their daughter, who was 9 years old at the time, was in the home when the crime happened. Mayo threatened the girl, if she tried to call authorities, police said.

McFarlane was taken to the hospital where she died several days later. Even though McFarlane died in August, police didn't arrest Mayo until March 2013. He was found in California.

His next court date is Jan. 27. His bail was set at more than $1 million.
