Driving You Crazy: Speed Limit Changes

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS - A viewer says he often sees different speed limit signs in close proximity to each other. He wants to know when he is supposed to change his speed.

Police say the speed limit sign itself marks the start of the new speed zone. When your vehicle is even with a posted speed limit sign, that is the point where the speed limit is in effect.

An example of this occurs on Windmill Parkway between Pecos Road and Eastern Avenue. The speed limit drops from 45 miles per hour to 35 miles per hour due to a school zone, dense landscaping, and 23 access points to the road.

Police always have a reason for a particular speed limit. Speed studies typically determine the safest speed limit at a given point.
