LAS VEGAS -- A suspect in the 1986 sexual assault and murder of a 7-year-old North Las Vegas girl appeared in a Las Vegas courtroom for his arraignment Monday morning.

Jasper Goddard pleaded  not guilty to counts of burglary, battery with intent to commit sexual assault, sexual assault with a minor and murder with a deadly weapon. His bail was set at $4 million.

Goddard, a registered sex offender, was pulled over for a traffic violation in Missouri in June 2013. During the stop, the officer discovered there was a Nevada warrant for Goddard for the rape and murder of April Marie Rhodes. DNA recovered from the crime scene was used to identify Goddard as a suspect, police said.

Rhodes beaten body was found Nov. 24, 1986 in a storage unit a few houses away from her family's apartment near Lake Mead Boulevard and Belmont Street.

Goodard's trial is set to begin in May 2015.
