Police Seek Possible Attempted Kidnapping Suspects

Posted: Updated:

NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. - North Las Vegas Police are looking for two men suspected of trying to kidnap a 12-year-old girl.

Police say the men were in a maroon minivan and drove up to the girl December 18, 2013 at approximately 8 a.m. as she was walking near Von Tobel Middle School, which is near Pecos Road and North Las Vegas Boulevard.

According to the girl, one of the men ordered her to get into the van, but she ran away.

She reported seeing two other teenage girls in the van. She says both men appeared to be Hispanic. The one who ordered her to get into the van appeared to be approximately 30 years old.

Police released information about the incident last month, but they renewed their efforts because school started again Monday.

"Our goal really was to get this out the week that school reconvenes," North Las Vegas Police Officer Chrissie Coon said.

Police are urging kids to not walk by themselves to school as they investigate what happened.

"As long as citizens are remaining diligent, in reporting that suspicious activity, there is a good chance that we will catch them," Coon said.

Coon says the images of the van are key in this investigation. Surveillance video shows the van pass twice in different directions in the area where the girl said she was approached at around 8 a.m. that morning.

It is described as a late 80's maroon box-style minivan possibly a Chevrolet.

Police have also released a sketch of the man who was a passenger in the van.

The Clark County School District sent a letter home to parents of students at Von Tobel Middle School about the attempted kidnapping.

Parents of children who go to the nearby elementary school think they also should have been told about the incident.

"I didn't even know about it," mom Adrina Trujillo said, "They should have told us something."

Police are looking at any child abduction or missing persons cases locally and in other states that might match up with the two teenagers the girl said were already in the van. So far, police have found nothing.

Anyone with information is urged to contact North Las Vegas Police at 702-633-9111 or Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
