Driving You Crazy: Garbage Along Nevada Highways

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS - A viewer wants to know what can be done to prevent and remove trash along the freeway.

The Nevada Department of Transportation has directed maintenance crews to clean freeway trash from areas reported by Traffic8. Unfortunately, within days of a clean-up, trash reappears.

Nevada Highway Patrol cites drivers for tossing trash, but other people can also help cut down on the clutter. If you see someone litter, contact NHP regarding the offender and NDOT for the clean-up. Be sure to note the location of the driving litterbug.

Volunteers and private companies can also help through either the Adopt-a-Highway or Sponsor-a-Highway programs.

Garbage isn't just unsightly. It's dangerous, because trash along the freeway often reaches the road, forcing drivers to avoid it at highway speeds.
