Downtown Las Vegas Prepares to Party

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS --  Downtown Las Vegas is offering up some new options to ring in 2014 for people looking for a different experience from the Las Vegas Strip.

This is one of 3 stages where 10 bands will be playing starting 6pm tomorrow night.

The Fremont Street Experience is expecting some 30,000 people to ring in 2014 under the canopy that covers the street. There will be 10 bands playing on three different stages. The music gets underway at 6 p.m.

Just a few blocks away, some new attractions are also hoping to draw revelers away the Strip. Michael Weinberger from San Francisco is ready to experience a new kind of Las Vegas to cap off 2013.

"We usually stay at places like the Venetian and the Palazzo," Weinberger said.

This time he chose to stay at the newly opened Downtown Grand.

"All this is a totally new experience for me, I love it."

The Downtown Grand's CEO Seth Schorr is hoping the hotel's first New Year's Eve party -- inside the newly renovated Mob Bar -- will be a hit. He also hopes visitors take a chance to experience the downtown vibe.

"You can come down here, walk around, there's many different experiences within walking distance," he said.

One new attraction is the Container Park on East Fremont which opened earlier this month and will be hosting a New Year's Eve party. The free event will offer live music and access to nearly 40 shops and restaurants.

Matt Dangler, a local, says he rather party on Fremont Street than the Strip.

"To drive around in all that traffic and taxi and stuff, it's not for me," Dangler said.

It costs $40 to party at Fremont Street Experience. There will be live music featuring everyone from Blues Traveler to Vince Neil and virtual fireworks on the canopy over the street. Tickets can be purchased Tuesday at any Fremont Street Experience hotel or at the event gates.

"That's what I like about Las Vegas anyway, new stuff always happening and changing," Weinberger said.

Starting at 6 p.m. on Jan. 31, the Fremont Street Experience will only be open for those 21 and older. That restriction also goes for the Container Park's New Year's Eve party which starts at 9 p.m.

(Channel 8 will carry live coverage of the New Year's Eve celebration in Las Vegas starting at 10 p.m. You can also watch live streaming coverage on
