LAS VEGAS - Navigating the streets of Las Vegas is no challenge for Brandy Wright, who spent much of her life battling drug addiction and dysfunction. Along the way, she had five children.

"Looking around the house, the kids, it was just awful. It's amazing that they survived," she said.

Wright was addicted to opiates, but one day, she saw a chance to escape her addiction. "I fell to my knees and called out for help," she said.

She found that help thanks to another woman who was saved by the Salvation Army.

"She directed me to come to the Salvation Army. A bed finally opened up for me, and I went into the women's program," Wright said.

Today, Wright is drug free thanks to the many services the Salvation Army provides.

"Brandy has had just tremendous obstacles to overcome, but has just continued to put one foot in front of the other," said Major Rhonda Lloyd, Salvation Army of Southern Nevada Director of Special Services.

The Salvation Army provides an addiction treatment program, shelter for people to escape the streets and an auxiliary program that provides rent for six months.

Wright now works for the Salvation Army as a youth assistant, driving kids to and from the charity's programs. She turned her life around thanks to the generosity of others.

"When you see a spark in somebody that you know they're really serious and trying to make it, that's when you want to come along side and go the extra mile and really help that happen," Lloyd said.

"I needed that. I had nowhere to turn to, nothing. I needed them," Wright said.

The Salvation Army operates 16 facilities and more than 20 programs and services throughout southern Nevada.
