RTC to Offer Free Bus Rides on New Year's Eve

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS -- The Regional Transportation Commission will be offering free rides on New Year's Eve as it has done in past years. There will also be direct transit service from the Centennial Hills and Summerlin areas to downtown Las Vegas.

The free rides will take place from Tuesday, Dec. 31 at 6 p.m. through Wednesday, Jan. 1 at 9 a.m. and apply to all routes throughout the Las Vegas Valley.

Getting Downtown for the NYE Celebration:

From Centennial Hills Transit Center Park & Ride: This year, the RTC is offering park-and-ride transit service on New Year's Eve, the Centennial Express (CX) transit route, to Downtown Las Vegas from the Centennial Hills Transit Center Park & Ride, located on Grand Montecito Parkway, near Durango Drive and Elkhorn Road. The parking lot offers 900 parking spaces.

From Westcliff Transit Center & Suncoast Casino Park & Ride: Additionally, the RTC is offering park-and-ride transit service on New Year's Eve to Downtown Las Vegas from the Westcliff Transit Center Park & Ride, the Westcliff Airport Express (WAX), located at 25 S. Durango Dr. just south of Summerlin Parkway. The Westcliff Transit Center offers 140 parking spaces and the overflow parking located at the southeast corner of the Suncoast Casino offers 100 parking spaces.

Express transit service from these park and ride locations will operate at a higher frequency, approximately every 20 minutes, between 6 p.m. on New Year's Eve until 4 a.m. on New Year's Day.

The free service will take riders from the park and rides to Neonopolis on Las Vegas Boulevard, where passengers may transfer to the Deuce on the Strip service to travel south to the Strip, as close as transit service can reach given closures on the Strip.

Getting to the Strip for the NYE Celebration:

The Deuce on the Strip double-deck service will operate on the Strip until it is closed to traffic. At that time, the Deuce on the Strip service will operate from the Fremont Street Experience to Mandalay Bay primarily via Paradise Road & Koval Lane at approximately a 20-minute frequency. Additionally, the Strip & Downtown Express (SDX) will operate from the Las Vegas Premium Outlets North to the South Strip Transfer Terminal primarily via Industrial Road & Dean Martin Drive at a 20-minute frequency until 2:30 a.m. on New Year's Day. Routes 201 (Tropicana Avenue), 202 (Flamingo Road), and 203 (Spring Mtn. Road / Desert Inn Road / Lamb Blvd) will provide the closest possible access to the Strip but will not stop on the Strip. Many transit routes on and around the Las Vegas Strip, including the Deuce on the Strip service, will be detoured on New Year's Eve due to anticipated street closures on Las Vegas Boulevard.
