TSA Offers Security Pre-Check at McCarran International Airport

LAS VEGAS -- Millions of people across the country will be getting on planes over the next few days to get to their holiday destinations. Getting through the long lines at the airport screening has some questioning why they make the trip.

"That's a good question. I asked myself that at 4:30 this morning," said Rebekah Pastorella who is from Colorado. "It's especially inconvenient when you have to take off your shoes and put them back on, then there's people behind you waiting for you and it can bunch up."

The promise of getting through the security lines faster and with a lot less hassle is appealing, especially this time of year. The Transportation Security Administration has expanded their TSA pre-check operations at McCarran International Airport and across the country.

If a passenger qualifies, they can avoid the mass of people at the regular check point and they won't have to take off their light jacket, shoes or belt. The TSA hopes to have 25 percent of travelers going through their pre-check line.

"I just found out about it this very instant so I don't know anything about it, but I'm enjoying it," said Paula Kepler from California.

Passengers used to have to register to go through pre-check, but now the TSA is screening tickets on a flight by flight basis for nine airlines. If the passenger clears a quick background check, they can be sent to the pre-check line.

"There are people taken by surprise, however TSA is doing an excellent job of greeting passengers at the beginning of the cue determining if they should be in pre-check and familiarizing them with the process," said Christine Crews, a spokesperson for McCarran International Airport.

The TSA announced all military personnel will qualify for the pre-check line.
