Helping the Homeless for the Holidays

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS -- Well-meaning people who donate food and items to the homeless on the streets of Las Vegas are being asked by police to drop the donations at agencies.

Police say, in past years, people have given food, clothing and bedding directly to homeless people on the street. Police say that can have unintended consequences. The items are sometimes left behind and end up blocking sidewalks and falling into the street.

Police are advising people to drop off the donations at agencies, instead of giving them directly to people.
