LAS VEGAS - The FBI reports nearly 400,000 burglaries happen in December every year. If it happens to you, getting your belongings back may be tough, unless you have a home inventory.
A home inventory is a list of everything you own that includes information such as how much each item costs and the make and model numbers.
Home inventory lists come in handy if you get robbed. For example, if you have a laptop under the tree, and your home gets robbed, do you have information to give police about the laptop?
Do you know the make and model number? Do you remember how much it cost? Do you have enough information on file to make an insurance claim?
If you answered no to any of those questions, a home inventory may be the answer. You can make a home inventory for free with an app called HomeZada. It's available on Apple and Android products.
"HomeZada is so easy. You can use your iPhone or Android to take a picture of an item, enter whatever data you feel is necessary - a price tag or receipt - upload it on to the system, and it is in the system for good in a safe and secure cloud," Elizabeth Dodson with HomeZada said.
This app could also be helpful if tragedy strikes your home. For example, if a family loses their home to fire, HomeZada can help document the items that are lost.
