Two-Alarm Fire Damages Apartments

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS -- The Clark County Fire Department responded to a two-alarm fire at an apartment complex near Valley View Boulevard and Flamingo Road at about noon Thursday.

According to the CCFD, the fire damaged two apartment units, but smoke and water impacted the other six units in the building. One person was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

"The smoke is the worst. That's the worst is the smoke," Dionna Long, who had to be taken to the hospital because of the smoke. "It was so thick, so thick. You had to get out."

The American Red Cross along with the apartment managers are providing help to the people displaced by the fire.

"We had no time, seconds, seconds.  We had no time, so everything is gone: laptops, phones, presents, gone." Long said.

Paul McIntyre was driving by, when he saw the fire. He stopped and worked to help has many people as he could.

"Once I saw the smoke and everything, I just kicked through the first window and started yelling.  We didn't know if anybody was in there," McIntyre said.

Fortunately, no one was home in the apartment where the fire started.

Fire crews were able to put it out in about 15 minutes. There is no word on what caused the blaze. Damage estimates are set at $60,000.
