Acts of Kindness: Nick Finn

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS - Private Las Vegas Chef Nick Finn recently made a big change in his life after getting out of a bad relationship.

"Instead of focusing on all that negativity, I just put forth my energy to help out other people," he said.

The people he helps are the homeless who gather at Las Vegas intersections. While many others ignore them and drive by, Finn seeks them out.

"Just let them know, first, you recognize them as being human," he said.

Finn passes out care packages to the homeless at various intersections. He keeps the packages stashed in the back seat of his car.

"Toothbrush, soap, toothpaste, razor, shaving cream, deodorant, band-aids, a comb, manicure kit," he said.

Each care package also includes a five-dollar bill and a handwritten note of encouragement.

"It's not a pity letter. It's something that hopefully will inspire them and encourage them to change their circumstances and to let them know that everybody around them that's driving by or what-not, they're not better than them, just dealt a different hand," he said.

Some will take the time to read the note. Others will share it with fellow homeless people.

"I didn't know if they sometimes took the money out and threw the bag away or what, but the reactions we got last week were pretty cool," he said.

"The whole pay-it-forward movement - hopefully this will encourage people to do the same and the next time they see somebody in the road, they are not going to automatically assume they are going to use the money for negative things, rather to help them out," he said.

8 News NOW is rewarding Nick Finn's efforts, awarding him $800 as part of its weekly series Acts of Kindness.
